International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The IRC has been working in Horn and East Africa region since 1981. Since then, the IRC currently carries out critical assistance programs in Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, and Zimbabwe. As the critical and often primary relief intervention for emergency and conflict-affected populations, health has been IRC’s primary sector in the region. However, for unmet and long-term needs, the IRC also implements programs in environmental health, primary health care, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. Given the current drought and famine in the region, the IRC has begun several emergency response programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia, including emergency health, nutrition, water, gender-based violence prevention and treatment, and livelihoods programs.
