In July 2011, ChildFund launched a formal response to the crisis in the Horn of Africa brought on by years of drought. As of this writing, response efforts continue in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. Emergency interventions implemented in the affected areas so far include among others; a rapid assessment (focusing on health & nutrition, water & sanitation, protection, and livelihoods); supplementary feeding for children, pregnant and lactating mothers; and water intervention activities (safe water vessels & water treatment chemicals, water tracking, hygiene promotion). So far, ChildFund’s efforts in the area have reached at least 65,009 people mainly children under 5 years and pregnant and lactating women.
